Boundaries

The more I learn about myself I realize the key to fulfilled life is having great boundaries. This is something I recently realize that I suck at, but I am working on improving.

Boundaries can be defined as: energetic/spiritual agreement with yourself and what you need

There are different types of boundaries:

  • Mental = news, internet, radio, gossip, violence, television, conversations

  • Emotional = Self care time, taking on other peoples energy, other peoples problems or issuses

  • Physical = Time spent in the presence of friends, co-workers, family, society, & lovers

  • Spiritual = Understanding what you truly need at a soul level and choosing for oneself

I LOVE the topic of boundaries, because until we can become aware of what are needs are and where we are not meeting our needs, we can’ t really be honest about our boundaries. To me this is a practice that will always evolve over time. For example: a mother with young children has to re-evaluate boundaries depending on the wants/needs of children and her role as a mother, a CEO or business owner will have different boundary requirements than I do right now because we have different levels of responsibilities.

The brilliance about boundaries is YOU ARE TAKING RESPONSIBILITY for your life. You are setting up parameters and rules of operation for how you want to live. In this way, as humans with free will & choice we can take our power back from otherwise feeling like victims of circumstance. In my life, when I have felt powerless, I didn’t realize that I had a total lack of boundaries and gave my energy, my life, my time to things that didn’t make me feel good. Boundaries is a form of self-respect and self-care. When we have Stress in our lives it is as result of our needs not being met. If we can stop & breathe and write down what we need, how we can resolve this stress we begin to regain power and peace of mind through boundary setting.

Writing this has inspired me to take the time to write down what I am feeling about the above types of boundaries and were I can make improvements. Awareness is the key to living a more fulfilling life - awareness starts by slowing down, taking a deep breath, and giving ourselves the time we deserve to create the life that we desire.
