Finally, It Happened
Almost an entire year ago, my friend Nick & I agreed that we both wanted to visit Sol Duc Hot Springs located in Olympic National Park, WA. Well, that desire finally happened approximately 10 or so months later. Since it was rainy & cold (surprise) at the beach where I had set up camp, Nick swung by one of my favorite spots to camp named Fairholme campground located on the banks of gorgeous Lake Crescent. The previous day the camp was FULL and Nick was lucky enough to snag us a great spot. I adventured back from the beach & we met up. Today is Nick's birthday and I am so happy for the 10 day campaign adventure he just started. He is in the Navy and in a few months will be relocating to his new duty station to Florida. I am happy that he has the time to complete his vision of camping around the Olympic Peninsula.
When we met up Friday I was really excited to head into the park and go to the Hot Springs (they stay open until 9pm) It was lovely, even when the rain was coming down we sat in the warm water that smelled of sulfur and other minerals while our muscles in our body & the wild muscle that is our mind got to relax. After about an hour they rotate each of the pools, letting them drain and refill with the mineral hot springs, so it was fun to play hot potato with all of the other guest. I love being around so many people that are on their own adventures from all around the world. The first day I was lucky to meet a mother of 3 children and strike up a conversation. Their family is from Israel and traveling for the next 3 months from west to east coast of North America. They were headed up to Canada after leaving the part. What I found fascinating is she is originally from Russia, her husband is from Eastern Europe, and they met living in Israel.
Nick & I were so relaxed after finishing in the Hot Springs we didn't even make dinner that evening. I slept so good that night waking pretty up pretty late the next day around 8:30 and Nick slept till about 10:45. That is what being stationed on a ship will to do you.... wear you out. I am so thankful for Nick's friendship and so pumped that we got to have our adventure we have wanted for a while.
