Oh, I Almost Forgot......

During the night of sleep before my departure from the Big Island I awoke during the middle of the night to intense shaking. At first, I was scared because I thought it was another freaky dream ( I had freaky dreams pretty much every night I was there) One night my dream was so sketchy, I woke up pee and had to repeat the words to myself….. “I am safe in the light, I am safe in the light” as I got out of my bed and stepped outside the tent to relieve myself.

When I first woke up to the shaking, I did think I was dreaming. I called out to my tent mate who was sleeping peacefully - and I thought to myself “maybe I am just crazy.” One thing I remember very clearly is that all of nature’s creatures went silent during the earthquake. Normally, there is a symphony of frogs at night, however, when I woke up the shaking it was completely silent for a few minutes. Since I couldn’t go right back to sleep, I stepped outside the tent to take a pee and when I came back inside to lay down my mind was all over the place. Lucky for me, I remembered that I had brought my cell phone into my tent with me this night. (normally, I left it up at the kitchen/bath space) So, I was able to get a little wi-fi signal in my tent and do a google search for “Hawaii Earthquake” and sure enough - I WASN’T CRAZY!

At first the report was it was a 4.8 quake, however, later it was confirmed that the quake reached the magnetite of 5.5. The last time I felt a good quake was when I lived in San Diego in 2010 and before that I was living in Oahu around 2007 timeframe. So, it has been a while since I experienced the cool sensation of the earth shaking. This is the closest I have ever been to the Epicenter of a quake (less than 10 miles away) that was a pretty neat experience - after I got past the part where I thought I was dreaming crazy dreams.
